When Is The Last Time You Looked At Your Credit Report?
Published On February 10th, 2011

You get constant junk emails and see TV commercials about getting your credit report and yet when was the last time you got yours?   It’s really easy to get and most important of all FREE to get.   Beginning in 2004 per the FACTA Act (Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003) you could get a copy of your credit report from all three credit reporting agencies every 12 months.

Yet according to the Consumer Data Industry Association, yeah I never heard of them either.  Apparently they are the trade organization of credit reporting agencies.  And according to them from 2004 to 2010 a 175 million free credit reports have been ordered, which translates to about 25 million per year.    Twenty-five million of anything seems like a lot, until you consider that with the three credit reporting agencies Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian which each have over 200 million consumer credit files.

I realize that reading and understanding a credit report can be difficult especially the part on trying to figure out how the infamous three digit number, your credit score is calculated.  The Big Three Credit bureaus claim that their formulas are propriety and you could just say they are top secret.  You’d have an easier time finding out government secrets.  We probably could use the help of Julian Assange with Wiki Leaks to investigate.

Your credit report is something that can be improved fairly quickly and on your own without having to pay a company or get an attorney.  From my experience the longer people wait to address past screw ups or errors in a credit report the longer it will haunt you and prevent from getting the best deals which ultimately will make a huge difference on your bank account.

So if you have not ordered your credit report because you may have had some mistakes in the past, or denied for credit, or don’t really know what’s on your credit report or just have been too busy to deal with it I can help you.

Not knowing where you stand with your credit often has people settling for renting instead of actually owning their own home.  And if you know me well you’ll know I hate seeing people waste money on rent when they could easily own home and take advantage of all the benefits that come with owning a home.

Your next step which is the hardest part is to get your hands on your credit report.  It’s easy just go to www.annualcreditreport.com .  Just click on it and it’ll take you to a link to order where you can  order FREE credit report.   If you have questions on your report, once you get the report call or email me and I’ll help you with any questions about your report.
